Get Your Attendees Charged Up

Printer-friendly version

When it comes to making meetings and events greener, hotels and venues have planted many perks to harvest. From in-room recycling and automatic climate controls to offering menus abundant with local produce, donating used soaps and shampoos, using green cleaners and earning Michigan Green Lodging certification, all planners and attendees have to do is check in.

Now venues are offering yet another way to plug in, literally, by offering electric vehicle charging stations. Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa, Peaches Bed & Breakfast, several university campuses and facilities like Grand Rapids’ DeVos Place, all provide a place for electric car owner guests to get charged up.

Finding statistics on electric vehicle ownership proved elusive; it’s likely only a few attendees will/might be driving an electric vehicle (I only know one person who owns a Chevy Volt, and he loves it). But anything that makes it easier for potential attendees to say yes to an event, even if it’s only one or two, is a plus for planners.

While it’s likely your hotel or venue will already be touting their EV charging station(s), you can also locate stations here. Curious about electric vehicles in general? The Michigan Electric Car Association will be hosting the 4th Annual Electric Car Show and Rally at Schoolcraft College in Livonia on Sat., Jun. 9, 2012.
