Office Feng Shui

By M+E Staff

Meeting and event planners have to blend creativity with high levels of productivity, managing minute details in service of a larger vision. If you’re looking to ramp up your productivity at work, create an environment that supports your goal. That’s the idea behind office feng shui. Here are some easy steps to make your office a more creative place.

Kill the clutter

One of the easiest ways to foster a productive environment is to remove all clutter from your workspace. Visible clutter can be distracting and overwhelming. This includes clutter on top, below and in your desk. Find a home (like the recycling bin) for anything unused, unfinished and unresolved. Make your computer clutter-free, too. Organize your documents, pictures and email into folders or delete any unneeded items. Finally, kill the microscopic clutter by dusting and vacuuming your work space weekly.

Make it comfy

Are you comfortable in your workspace? If not, upping the comfort level could increase your efficiency and motivation. Adjust your computer screen resolution so that you don’t have to squint when looking. A comfortable chair that aligns properly with your desk and keyboard will make your bum and back much happier. Add gel pads wrist rests for your keyword and mouse pads to alleviate discomfort in your arms and hands.

Whatcha Lookin’ At

Planners know the power of great décor. So why do so many spend their work days staring at a terrible view? Take a look at what surrounds your desk: Is it a window or a plain wall? If you’re staring at a wall, it may be “blocking” some of your thought processes. Put up a favorite picture or painting that inspires you instead, like framed invitations to some of your favorite events. Healthy green plants will add life to your workspace and color to your desk and absorb toxins in the air.

These three easy steps will make your office cleaner and fresher, making it easier to work and enjoy the process. Happy de-cluttering!
