I get it: It’s cold and snowy outside. Trying to imagine yourself at a late-spring party Up North in fabulous spring garb is kind of a stretch right now.

But imagine yourself you must. Because registration for the Best of Michigan 2017 party is open. And we want you to be counted.

This year’s party will be held at the recently renovated City Opera House in Traverse City. We can’t wait to explore this beautiful venue, and we really can’t wait to be in TC. This is the city that has done everything it could to support our industry and this magazine, in good times and in bad. It’s time for us to return the favor.

Of course, a trip to the region isn’t exactly a tough ask. And, in true Traverse City style, we’re getting the red carpet rolled out. The new-and-fabulous Hotel Indigo is hosting a rooftop after party for us. Additional event partners include Events North, Bistro Fou Fou and Epicure Catering and Cherry Basket Farm. Even Kurt Colone, our beloved emcee from Mike Staff, is making the trek. The night is going to be amazing.

So get registered, people. It’ll be late spring. In Traverse City. With boatloads of amazing food and wine and the most devoted and accomplished people in our industry.

See you there.

Well, another fantastic Best of Michigan Awards party has come and gone. Every year, I think we’ve topped ourselves, though, really, each year’s celebration is wonderful in its unique way.

This year we took the party to Traverse City, a much-needed visit by the magazine’s readers and supporters to the region that has done so much to lure tourism to Michigan. The local meeting and events industry folks bent over backwards to make the experience exceptional. We spread out over two venues—the City Opera House and the Hotel Indigo—and enjoyed wonderful hospitality wherever we were.

The votes are in; here are the winners as decided by the readers of Michigan Meetings + Events.

What does it mean to be the best? In Michigan, the bar keeps moving north. As our state continues to rebuild and flourish, new venues come on line, new restaurants open their doors and what it takes to truly stand out continues to expand.

So it’s inspiring to see so many long-standing vendors and venues continue to earn our readers’ loyalty. Newcomers are welcome and often impress, but we clearly have many industry players that built their operations to last.
