Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation and the Steamboat Grand Hotel has hired Jennifer Shea as their new sales director. In her new role, Shea will create and implement strategies for local, regional and national channels for tour operators, wholesalers, travel agents, properties and campaigns. She will also be in charge of pricing and products, overseeing conference programs and managing the sales team.
A study on the important of social media in the meetings and events industry conducted by American Express Meetings & Events found usage of social media has increased in the industry, and about 45 percent of planners see the value in online engagement. Neemah Persad-Celestine is an executive of Hyatt Regency Trinidad, and responsible for all Hyatt Regency Trinidad’s social media, understands this and is an advocate for using social media in all aspects of planning.
The Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau and a member of its staff have been honored with three awards. One award was from the Michigan Society of Association Executives and two were from the Arts Council of Greater Lansing.
The awards were announced last month at the MSAE Association Choice Awards, which were held at the East Lansing Marriott. The GLCVB was awarded ‘Best Large CVB’ by the association’s 1,000 members.
On Jan. 5–8 in Las Vegas, CES 2017, a global tech community conference, is expected to draw 50,000 industry professionals from more than 150 countries. The show will feature exhibits from 57 countries—up 9 percent from last year. More than 600 startups from 33 countries will be featured this year.

The American Homebrewing Association has recently announced seven rising homebrewing destinations in the US.
“Craft brewing and homebrewing have long supported one another: a thriving craft beer community nurtures a healthy, growing homebrew culture and vice-versa,” says Gary Glass, director, American Homebrewers Association. “Some cities are legendary for such pro-am symbiosis, while others are gaining well-deserved reputations as up-and-coming homebrew hot spots.”
IMEX America, an expo for the travel, meetings and events industry, took place in Las Vegas on Oct. 10–12. There, Hilton announced and launched their new initiative, WowMakers, which will help recognize the hardworking professionals in the hospitality industry.
The program is intended to celebrate the 100,000-plus professionals in the industry by sharing their stories and helping them connect with others in the business—giving them the recognition they deserve.
According to recently published figures, IMEX America 2016 has officially broken multiple records. The event, which was held Oct. 18–20, had an attendance increase of 14 percent from last year.
There was a 6 percent increase in the attendance of hosted buyers, making up 3,216 from 60 countries. About 10,000 buyers attended group appointments and prescheduled appointments were upwards of 60,000—far more than the numbers gathered in 2015.
