The Ninth Annual Readers’ Choice Awards Party was a great success, thanks to all of you who joined us at the Gem Theatre on Thursday and who supported the event.

We had a perfect Michigan spring evening to roll out the red carpet. Guests enjoyed a delicious dinner provided by the Gem Theatre while trying a wine tasting by three Michigan wineries. The hands-down hit of the reception, though, was the entertainment by Empty Canvas. The McGrath brothers played music while patrons painted a single picture, one stroke at a time, under their instruction.

Kurt Colone, of Mike Staff Productions, was our emcee once again - and even got to hand his own team an award, for Best Entertainment Provider. (See our profile of Kurt in the magazine’s current issue.) Several new categories drew new attendees, including Best Brewery, Best Winery and Best Sweets Provider.

If you weren’t able to make it, we missed you! Hopefully you can join us next year, when our party hits the road to Port Huron and the city’s new convention center.
