It was a night to shine at The Reserve in Birmingham as honorees and guests from around the state gathered for the 2018 Event Professional Industry Class (EPIC) Awards. The program recognized the best in the industry and highlighted the previous year of events.
The Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau (DMCVB) traditionally unveils its latest marketing plan, which includes departmental objectives and strategies, during its annual membership meeting every January. This year’s event at MotorCity Casino Hotel’s Sound Board drew hundreds to hear the bureau’s recap of 2017, projections for the future and new ads.
Its next-generation ad campaign, themed Detroit: It’s Go Time, now appears in a variety of offline and online media in key markets, including Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and Indianapolis.
Michigan Society of Association Executives (MSAE) suppliers, members and friends started their day on Nov. 17 at the Marriott East Lansing at University Place for the Association Choice Awards Celebration (see page 56) networking brunch. Sixty-eight supplier partners that make a difference in the association community were nominated in 23 categories. Online voting by only MSAE members whittled the finalists in each category down to the winners.
Metro Detroit industry professionals came together March 30 at Silver Gardens Events Center for the annual EPIC Awards, presented by the Michigan chapters of ABC, NACE and ILEA. The Meeting Professionals International Michigan Chapter held its annual awards party on June 2 at The Henry, Autograph Collection in Dearborn. The event recognizes the hard work and dedication of Michigan’s meeting pros. This year’s individual winners were Chris Rowley, CMP, for Finest Sales Professional; Veronica Rogers, CMP, for Finest Planner; and Deb Denyer, MIM+E board member, for the 2016 President’s Award of Excellence.
The Greater Detroit Chapter of the National Association for Catering and Events held its Table Top Wow! event October 21 at Andiamo Warren. The design competition included a strolling reception and silent auction to benefit Blessings in a Backpack.
Planners and suppliers gathered at East Lansing’s Eagle Eye Golf in November for the 2014 Showcase of Ideas. The event, a partnership between VIKTOR and Event Garde, featured sessions on branding, contract negotiations and the 2015 ASAE Annual Meeting.
