Consumer behavior expert and author Shawna Suckow, CMP, shared her industry insights during the Meeting Planners International (MPI) Michigan Chapter’s annual Mid-Winter Symposium and Silent Auction in February.

Suckow’s “Meetings 3.0” session focused on the evolution of technology, culture and generations that have led to changes in what audiences now demand and how planners must react to those changes. Her afternoon presentation assessed event practices that need to be disregarded because many of them no longer effectively serve planners or their clients.

About 115 MPI Michigan members attending the day-long program also heard an industry forecast from Kerri Boytis of the American Express Global Business Travel group.

The night before the presentations, members participated in the chapter’s 2nd Annual Trivia Night at the host facility, The Kensington Hotel in Ann Arbor.

Proceeds from the annual silent auction fund continuing education for planners, chapter scholarships, promotional activities and special projects.

The Greater Detroit Chapter of the National Association for Catering & Events (NACE) celebrated its annual holiday party at The Whiskey Factory in Detroit with a strolling dinner, music, gift card balloon pop and membership awards. More than 125 members enjoyed the event sponsored by AVL Creative, Chair Covers & Linens, Creative Specialties, The Display Group, Rock Out Entertainment, ShutterBooth, Viviano Flower Shop, BTW Photography and The Whiskey Factory.

It was a night to shine at The Reserve in Birmingham as honorees and guests from around the state gathered for the 2018 Event Professional Industry Class (EPIC) Awards. The program recognized the best in the industry and highlighted the previous year of events.

Sun-drenched views of the Detroit River, fun entertainment and great camaraderie contributed to an exciting event packed with award presentations during the Michigan Meetings + Events magazine Best of 2018 readers’ choice awards.
