1. What are you looking forward to in your new role as general manager of Kimpton Hotel Vintage Portland?

Social media has drastically changed since I was in college. Thanks to Instagram, Twitter and FB, the hashtag symbol is becoming a larger topic when it comes to following, reporting and engaging with companies, friends or events. I personally love following the buzz during events that I cannot attend via hashtags. Savvy event planners can use hashtags to help our industry and business grow.

The more I travel—and the longer I edit this magazine—the more I appreciate convention and visitors bureaus. They are staffed with people who know their area inside and out, and are passionately committed to supporting and promoting it. In Michigan, in particular, we've needed voices telling our story to a country that often had it wrong. Our CVBs have done as much as anyone to do so and to turn our state’s fortunes around and attract the enthusiasm and investment that we need.

Hotel Indigo Denver Set to Open Early 2017

Hotel Indigo Denver is set to open in Denver’s Union Station neighborhood in mid-January of 2017. It will be located at 1801 Wewatta Street and will have 180 guest rooms and 1,188 square feet of meeting and event space.

Hot Dogs, and Italian Beef and Chocolate Cake, Oh My!

Minnesotans, get excited. The tantalizing menu at Portillo’s—Chicago’s fast casual restaurant that serves Chicago-style cuisine—will now be available in Woodbury. The restaurant will be located at 8450 Hudson Road. They are set to begin construction in the coming months and are slated for a summer 2017 opening—the perfect seasons for hot dogs, a menu favorite.

Choose A Suburban Venue For Conventions In Washington DC

Finding a venue is one of the first decisions a meeting planner makes. Its size and location can make a big impact on meeting attendance. The Sheraton Tysons Hotel—managed by Crescent Hotels & Resorts—located outside of Washington, DC, is helping planners choose by offering a package for planners booking through 2020.
