An Inside Guide to Web Redesign

Q: Our current website is no longer meeting the needs of our internal and external audiences. I’m in the market for a web redesign, but I don’t know where to begin. Do have you any pointers?

A: Whether the site is narrowly focused on a signature event or more broadly focused on your overall organization, there are a number of steps you can take to build a successful and buzz-worthy website. Having recently undergone a significant web redesign, here are seven of my key lessons learned.

Greater Lansing CVB and Team Lansing Foundation Announce CTA of the Year

Michigan’s Team Lansing Foundation, along with the Greater Lansing Convention and Visitors Bureau, revealed Doug Klein, CTA, executive director of the Mason Area Chamber of Commerce, as the 2016 Greater Lansing Certified Tourism Ambassador of the Year. He received his award at the 2017 Greater Lansing CVB Annual Meeting held on Feb. 21 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center in East Lansing; Klein is one of more than 500 CTAs in the area.

Hiring Announcements for DMCVB

The DMCVB is taking on Dave Beachnau as senior vice president of sales, marketing and sports, and has promoted Kris Smith to director of the Detroit Sports Commission.

"The knowledge and expertise that Dave has contributed to the DMCVB is invaluable, and we look forward to what he will accomplish in his new role," says Larry Alexander, president and CEO. "In his short time with the DSC, Kris has helped increase our profile within the national governing bodies of the Olympic movement, as well as created local awareness of the DSC."

Meet Scott Stinebaugh, a People Person

Scott Stinebaugh is a spartan. But as an MSU student, his focus was business, not the university’s well reputed hospitality program.

“I never had any idea I would wind up in hospitality,” says Stinebaugh, director of sales and marketing for the Westin Book Cadillac in Detroit. “But I wound up in a Hilton training program right out of college. It wasn’t really what I wanted to do, but I was intrigued by it. And that was the beginning, in 1987. So I’ve been doing this for a long time.”

Event Snapshots: Celebration! 2016 MMPI Awards Gala

The Meeting Professionals International Michigan Chapter held its annual awards party on June 2 at The Henry, Autograph Collection in Dearborn. The event recognizes the hard work and dedication of Michigan’s meeting pros. This year’s individual winners were Chris Rowley, CMP, for Finest Sales Professional; Veronica Rogers, CMP, for Finest Planner; and Deb Denyer, MIM+E board member, for the 2016 President’s Award of Excellence.

#stellar event status

Social media has drastically changed since I was in college. Thanks to Instagram, Twitter and FB, the hashtag symbol is becoming a larger topic when it comes to following, reporting and engaging with companies, friends or events. I personally love following the buzz during events that I cannot attend via hashtags. Savvy event planners can use hashtags to help our industry and business grow.
