So long, Cobo Hall! Huntington Place is the new name for Detroit’s world-class convention center. Karen Totaro, general manager for ASM Global, which runs the day-to-day operations for the venue, announced the name change. “Our partnership with Huntington Bank brings a wealth of opportunities to our community and visitors,” she said. “As we continue to elevate this Detroit convention center as an industry gold standard, the creative, hardworking team at Huntington Place continues to make diversity a strength as it focuses entirely on the success of every event.”

The 17th largest convention center in the United States, Huntington Place has 723,000 square feet of exhibit space. Originally opened as Cobo Hall in 1960, it completed a $279 million transformation in 2015. Before the pandemic, the convention center attracted nearly 1.5 million visitors annually. During the COVID-19 crisis, the venue became a civic center for the Detroit region, serving as a field hospital, a day center for homeless services, a food distribution center for Food Rescue US, and the city’s largest vaccination site with a drive-through facility in the Atwater Garage.

In 2022 the venue expects to host several big trade shows, including Silicone Expo, the world's first free-to attend commercial trade show and conference for the silicone industry in June, and Connect Marketplace in August. huntingtonplacedetroit.com

According to MPI’s report “Spring 2021 Meetings Outlook,” three-quarters of meeting professionals predict a face-to-face event this calendar year. And that definitely rings true for Lisa Williams, executive director of sales for the hotel.

 

Attendees at the Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism, which took place November 2-4, were among the first to experience the new event space at One Campus Martius. The 16th-floor venue was the site of the conference’s opening reception, and guests were wowed by the 5,500-square-foot wraparound terrace and the spectacular views it provides of downtown Detroit. The main event area offers more than 7,800 square feet of flexible event space, which can be divided into three smaller rooms.
