• PHLCVB Reveals Partnership with MPI

The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau revealed it will support Meeting Professionals International’s Healthcare Meeting Compliance Certificate course, working as the title sponsor of the program for one year. 

Accredited by Saint Louis University, the program, provides participants with vital information on compliance regulations, laws and techniques for managing healthcare meetings.

The partnership is a first between a destination and an MPI-managed certificate program; it will begin on Aug. 1 at MPI’s World Education Congress in San Francisco.

“We are thrilled to partner with MPI on bringing this certificate program to meeting professionals across the globe. As a destination, investing in education for our meeting planning community is important to us, as it enables planners to come to the table with a nuanced understanding of the healthcare compliance landscape and their needs from a CVB and a facility perspective,” says Julie Coker Graham, executive vice president, PHLCVB. “The partnership also gives us great visibility as a city with a robust medical community, a vast array of institutions and attractions that help planners achieve the requirements for compliant meetings, and as one of the only CVBs with a division focused on life science business development.”

MPI holds HMCC sessions during industry conferences at Saint Louis University and through private groups for individual companies and organizations. The four-hour course was created for those in need of a more complex understanding of healthcare regulatory topics.

Information includes a broad range of topics from interaction between pharmaceutical manufacturers, physicians and medical meetings planners to transparency reporting. Those who finish receive a certificate and the HMCC Seal of Endorsement upon completion. It is valid for two years when they then will need to recertify.

The Events Industry Council’s Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program, established in 1985, is recognized around the world as a badge of excellence in the events industry. JodieAnn Cady, an independent event project manager based in Mason, is among the professionals in the inaugural class of CMP Fellows, a program launched last year.

 

Located in Onekama and built in 1900 as the summer residence of lumber baron and Manistee Mayor Charles Canfield, Canfield House was purchased, completely renovated, and reopened as a year-round bed-and-breakfast in 2021. Featuring 200 feet of Portage Lake frontage, the property now offers a lakeside fire ring and new dock for kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. The six-room house can be rented for small retreats and groups up to 125 accommodated for meetings and receptions.
