• Students: Apply Now for Hospitality Scholarship

Furthering and sustaining the hospitality industry is dependent on the students working to get into the field today. Without them, the future is shaky.

To help these students gain the education they need to truly succeed, the Greater Atlantic City Concierge Association and Casino Reinvestment Development Authority Foundation created a partnership to award scholarships for education in the hospitality industry and promote its value.

The scholarships are available to students from Stockton University, Atlantic Cape Community College and Fairleigh Dickinson University are eligible to apply; scholarships will be awarded in May, 2016.

Every year, the GACCA and CRDA hold a fundraising event, the Feb. 6 At the Shore Wine Tasting Art Show, with proceeds going to the CRDA Foundation. The organization then awards scholarships to local college students at the annual Host Awards in May.

The scholarships acknowledge and reward academically successful students who are studying subjects related to the hospitality and tourism industry. It is specifically designed to acknowledge students that excel in their studies, have chosen the hospitality industry, and who also have demonstrated a unique ability to reach out to others through personal initiatives.

A volunteer committee of members from the Greater Atlantic City Concierge Association and the CRDA Foundation will select the award recipients through a criteria selection form that uses a point system for compliance. The selection committee and their family members are ineligible for scholarships. Award payment will be sent directly to the attending college for the purpose of tuition and tuition-related expenses.

Applications are now available on the CRDA Foundation website. The deadline for to apply is March 4, 2016.

SCS Global Services (SCS), a third-party environmental and sustainability certification, auditing, testing, and standards development, has launched its Zero Waste Standard, “Zero Waste for Events.”

 

The Events Industry Council’s Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) program, established in 1985, is recognized around the world as a badge of excellence in the events industry. JodieAnn Cady, an independent event project manager based in Mason, is among the professionals in the inaugural class of CMP Fellows, a program launched last year.

 

Located in Onekama and built in 1900 as the summer residence of lumber baron and Manistee Mayor Charles Canfield, Canfield House was purchased, completely renovated, and reopened as a year-round bed-and-breakfast in 2021. Featuring 200 feet of Portage Lake frontage, the property now offers a lakeside fire ring and new dock for kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. The six-room house can be rented for small retreats and groups up to 125 accommodated for meetings and receptions.
